I'm a little confused... are their posts you think are in the wrong place or do you think Orchid Lounge is under used?

We are not overly strict here with where people post, unless it's Phals in the Catleya section or some such... we only bother if a post is obviously and unquestionably in the wrong place.

Just a little confused what you think needs changing...

I think the lounge area is underused. I know a thread can evolve from its original subject and I know this board is more casual than others but most everything is started in the beginner's section. The beginner's section feels "cluttered" with chit-chat.

You are right that most stuff get's started in the beginner's section.

A lot of chit-chat evolves naturally from a post, trying to stop threads evolving that way and getting people to move the chit-chat elsewhere tends to stifle the it and it just stops and doesn't move elsewhere, which is why we prefer to just let it happen unless the original poster objects.

I'm not sure how we get people to post in more places than just the beginner section. It tends to be a a default place for people to post if they don't know where else to post. I mostly try and start my threads elsewhere now I'm no longer a beginner, but I'm not sure how we encourage more of this without becoming too dictatorial

I have gone in to the chat area many times and no one hangs out there it seems. I would like to see it also being used more. Maybe we can get members to use it as a event room also. I seen someone ask about trading orchids but they didnt know where to go. Is there a way we can do a event like talking about different things all about orchids. Beginners might like it as well as other members.
