Angry Spamalot much?

Or what?

Does anyone have a good theory on why it's usually the Cattleya Alliance that gets targeted by these spammers? Is it maybe because it's the category with the most views?

You guys are probably used to "attacks" like the one we just had, but I almost dropped my jaw. Is there anything we could do to stop these...pests?

Mutant, there are ALOT less spammers than there used to be. Last summer it was really bad 30-50 per day! Weekends were the worst I think.
Marty put some measures in place at that time and they really went way down, but occasionally a few do get thru. There really isn't a way of totally stopping them unless Marty and the Admins want to spend most of their time going thru applications and approving them. It would end up being a full-time job!

Yeah, and in order to limit the number of spam we all had to sacrifice some usability and functions for a few months while Marty tried various things to find a way to give full functions but limit. It's been a while since ive seen this much at once though. But I know what you are saying, as I was at work and pulled up a thread I was in conversation with to behold images and spam! That was quite shocking and embarrassing for me!

I see. I wish there was something I could do to help, but I can't. Except keep reporting them of course.

Good thing it has gotten better as compared to how it was before at least.

I still don't understand why they keep targeting OB, it's not like they have anything to offer that people here might be that interested in. Sure, if they spammed about orchid supplies I would understand it, but hats?

Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to it, sometimes it's human but most of the time it's a program. Programs don't distinguish best websites for their spamming.

The nice thing about OB is that the reporting function with Spammer status stops them further defacing the board.

Make sure you report each incident you come across to a mod (using the built in function) so it can be dealt with (deleted) - these people mainly do it to build pagerank in google, so the more effective we are at rooting it out, the less return they get. It helps that this is a pretty active board and people notice the spam quite fast.

Oh trust me, I'm on them like a little terrier! I love the infraction function, it's really good to stop them from posting more...dung...on OB.

I get almost as much pleasure from sniping spammers as I do from new orchid blooms.

No, not really.

But it's oddly satisfying.

I totally agree. I almost get a bit disappointed when I notice that someone has beat me to it. Oops...
