Maybe this is something that can be implemented on this forum?

This had been proposed in the past (along with having the first 5 posts be moderated or similar things), it was rejected. From what remember it was because it's a lot of extra work for mods/admins, and the general feeling was that restricting access would give OB it a bit of a 'elite club' feel, and people just wanting to post a question would get put off by not being able to post right away.
But if this spam continues like this, we may have no other choice.... Seems that nowadays all the forums I join don't allow direct registration+ posting anymore.

I understand the "elite" thing, the forum I was talking about definitely has that reputation; latin names only, proper grammer or get out, etc etc, but IMO is a very good thing to have as it makes searching for old threads much easier and there's no trying to decipher what the poster is trying to say. It does limit the members though quite a lot.
This forum seems to have a more mature group than many forums though which seems to eliminate those rules.

I know a french forum like that, with all those rules (and more), but in the end it wasn't very fun to be constantly wondering about what the mods would crack down on. No fun banter either, off topic stuff was immediately deleted. But that's a completely different issue than registration limitations...

They are spamming in the member articles (I think the only accessible place for them), and for some reason banning them doesn't work, they can just keep posting... Even when us mods permanently ban/delete them, they can still post.

Oh, I see.
Isn't it better to get rid of the article section (but save and move the written articles elsewhere), or lock it until Marty has come up with some way of making sure they stay out of that section as well?

The good news though is that everyone now is directed away from the articles so no one has to see it, plus they appear to not be posting in the actual forum sections now. Perhaps the changes Marty did restricted them to only the articles?

So, I just experimented with Tapatalk on reporting the spammer. It gave me 2 options, report to either this forum or to Tapatalk. For future spammers, which should I do? Also, could the spammers be coming through Tapatalk since that is an option?

Since we no longer use articles, I disabled replying to articles. Hopefully it will curb their enthusiasm somewhat
