Tips for posting Photos

I respect you all, but I've just spent another hour of my life trying to post a photo in correct orientation. No go. And I'm not into acrobatics. Very disappointing.

What operating system are you using? What image processing software? I don't think it works on any phone, only a desktop/laptop.

For desktop, Irfanview is a really nice little free (for personal use) program that does seem to work to "right" photos, and also has some very robust editing capabilitites too. Just do a "save as" and I don't even think you have to to the "flipping". (I run all my pix through Photoshop, do cropping and such, and that does the job too)

They're taken with iPhone. But when they're saved on my laptop they become jpegs. Nothing strange.
Trying to thing like the software... it seems to be insisting on "landscape" format. Dunno, grasping at straws here. I used to take all my photos with my Canon SLR. Maybe something wonky with Apple photos? That wouldn't surprise me. They're so proprietary.
Oh well. Another day, another effort.

Problem is with phone photos (I think all of them). It's the processing on the desktop that seems to reset the metadata that tells the OB software (such as it is) which way is up. Another hint... try renaming the file to .jpg while you're messing with it generally. (That's another little wrinkle... I had to explicitly tell my PC that .jpeg was to be treated the same as .jpg.) Apple definitely doesn't follow standards, I do run into idiosyncrasies in other areas too. (Pretty much, it doesn't play nice with other products...marketing I guess)

Duly noted, thanks. I think I'm feeling motivated to dust off my SLRs (I have the Canon 5D and 7D, older versions, if they even make those models anymore) and lord knows how many lenses, tripods, etc,) and start becoming reacquainted with taking real photos again. Old software, old cameras. Makes sense. I never had problems with those.

Off-topic -- nodosa is sending out its magic as we speak, and the room isn't dark, just somewhat dimly lit. It just knows it's nighttime. *Long-lasting flowers, aren't they? Yay.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding. You need to use desktop software to rotate any direction, save, rotate properly and then save the image. That seems to correct the rotation data.

Oh. So let me say this back to you. I take the original image (which is correctly oriented), rotate it any direction and save it as a new image. Then I take that new image, correct the rotation and re-save it.
Is that right? Thanks!

This is my advice too.
