Karen,
I can't help with the tech but I take the image from my computer by going to : go advanced & then to manage attachments..
and the images become 'bigger' like you want in the post .
Question : If you have put them on the OB - have you still got them on your computer or did you delete them?
as if are on your computer you can do as above.

Connie, I just went to one of your posts that had photos in it and that is just what I want.
Do you store the photos in your gallery and use them from there??? If so can you describe, step by step, how you do it?? I would appreciate it more than you can imagine even if it's double the work to do.

That's too technical for me....
I hope an "expert" will tell us !
As mentioned,
I'm not computer literate... my first reaction would be to say :- put both !!! :ROLF:
but seriously, I believe it is true to say that the risks of an external 'server' losing pics is much smaller....
Also, what I do is download onto my photos on computer & every couple of months I copy my photos onto an external hard disk as well as put the chosen few onto an external website (if they are photos I definitely want to keep ) like flicker or photob etc...
hope this helps ?

When I want to put a picture in a thread, I start the thread, then I go to "Manage Attachments" and click on that. That brings up a window with blank cells on it, and to the right of each it says "Browse". Click on browse, which will open the explore function on your computer (not to be confused with Windows Internet Explorer). Then, find the image you want in your computer and click on it. You will then see the location of the image as it appears on your hard drive. It will be something like "C:\Dopcuments and Settings/MyPictures/Folder/IMG.....JPEG. You can continue to add images the same way until you have as many images as you want to upload (up to the limit). Then, hit Upload. If necessary, the OB server will resize your images and it might take a minute or so. Then, hit submit reply to post your thread and the images. They do not have to be on your gallery. In fact, I haven't figured out to do what you and I want from my gallery; I just upload separately.
Hope that helps- see attached images- I'm showing off some of my non-orchid photos.
I have a windows computer.

PS- I'm not very computer literate, but I am very photo and digital photo literate, so if there are questions about that, I'll try to help.

Karen, don't mean to be brain-dead again but might I ask what size you are saving your pictures? On this board they can be as large as 1024 x 768. This is another reason I use a 3rd party place to store pics because if a site can't handle the larger format, I can still use them because I'm not actually posting the picture.

Did you try what I suggested in the second picture of my post. When I simply did the cut and paste from the url address I got a small picture too. But when I went to the little button on the right of the picture address, and then the two addresses separate, the url and the img. Then when I cut and paste the img address the picture comes up big, well sometimes at least. I have to admit that it doesn't work every time.

This is the way Tindomul said to do it but it's coming out really small and it doesn't do anything when you click on it

Hi guys, and thanks again
First Tundomul: I never get that small button on the side only one line and for the picture address. I've tried many times. Maybe my gallery is not set up for it???? So that won't work
Second BikerDoc: I guess when I resize my pics I save them at like 600 x something, that's probably why that pic came up so small. I think it was just the thumbnail. Looks like you found your way home . What kind of bike do you ride? years ago (many) I used to ride a 400-4 Honda...now I just like to ride along in back of my Hubby but even that's very seldom.
Now Connie, thanks for the info. That's how I was doing it and will probably continue to do it. I don't think I can figure out how to get what I want any other way. If I do I'll let you know. I'm pretty good on the computer but camera illiterate so I just snap and load into the computer. I so have photoshop elements and can do some good with that but it's more than I want to deal with so I take many of the same pics and hopefully one or two will be in focus. I love your photos and I've got many of Hummers in Costa Rica. One even on my hand. Went to see my brother when he was there (he passed away last year) and he had a zillion at his house up in the cloud forest. I wish I had been an orchid enthusiast then I probably saw a bunch and didn't realize it.
Well thank you all for all your help I'll probably just go back to the regular way of getting them off my comp.

First, just a note to hopefully clear up some confusion.
When you send a photo to OB, either as an attachement, to your gallery, or to a seperate photo sharing site, then a copy will be made in the place you send it to. When you create an attachement a copy will be stored with the thread on the OB servers. When you load to your gallery a copy will be made in the gallery section of the OB servers. When you load to a photo sharing site a copy will be made on the servers owned by that photo sharing sites.
This copy is NOT linked to the copy on your PC. You can move, rename, delete the copy on your PC and the copy on the OB or photo sharing server will remain.
As to whether you stores the pics here or on another site... personally I think it's "swings and roundabouts". There are advantages and disadvantages to both methods
If you load it as an attachement or as a gallery picture then it will take up space on the OB server, which Marty has to pay for the space (through the donations or sponsership of the site). That is why space for attachements and gallery are limited and members who donate to the site get more space.
The BIG advantage of this method is that (as has already been discussed) the pictures are here on OB so you shouldn't get the 'broken links' (or red x) due to a picture no longer being on the photo sharing site where it used to be. But that is not entirely the case... because space is limited on OB members may still remove thier pictures from their gallery or delete their attachements (which can be done from your User CP) to free up space for newer pictures and so threads may still get missing pictures as a result.
If you load your pictures to an external photo sharing site then it is stored on their servers paid for by that site. Many of those sites also have space constraints or ask for payment for additional space, which many people don't want to pay for. If you have space on a photo sharing site that is either free or you have decided to pay for anyway, then storing the photos there and linking to them on OB has the advantage that it does not take up space on Marty's servers (space that he has to raise money to pay for to keep OB going).
The disadvantage though is that you may easily forget that you have linked to those pictures on OB and remove them from the photo sharing site (again to get more space for newer pictures) and OB is left with the broken link. Or (as has happened to me) the external site rearranges the pics and the links break without you realising even though the pics are still there.
So... "Swings & Roundabouts". I am putting my orchids pics on to a photo sharing site anyway and so I don't want to take up space on the OB servers for no reason. On the other hand if you don't have a photo sharing site you are putting the pictures on anyway or you don't know how to use one, then loading them to OB is the best method. You can end up with broken links from BOTH methods, and the photos are stored on an internet server (not your PC) in both methods. So really I would say, just choose the method which works best and easiest for you.
