About this Board, latest update...
I joined this board over 1 year ago (October 2007) and quickly learned to love it. It is a great place, and I have lots of fun here... almost having troubles with my partner, because of "my addiction to it"... I have lots of new members joining, and this big family getting bigger and bigger (as well as my orchids collection ) All I could say, that so far it's been the Best Orchid Forum on the Web... just amazing! and must say thank to Marty, and all administrators for their hard work...
However, I think I need to say something, which makes me very very sad... since the latest software update, the OB has become an annoying nightmare for me
I use MacOs (and will not change this ) The new OB, seems to be not 100% compatible with this system, and several problems can be listed: - I rarely receive mail notifications
- I cannot open the attached pictures anymore, unless I right-click on them and select to open in new tab or new window
- I literally loose 2/3 of my screen, because OB opens as a "thin" long vertical stripe centered on my screen - left and right are totally black
- and worst yet, it runs eextremely slow now... so much, that at the beginning I thought I had a problem with my computer, but then realized this only happens with OB and not with any other websites...
sorry if I sound rude, it is really not the intention...
I just wanted to raise my concerns, and say how I feel about this...

point 2 : until last week, the pictures were showing perfectly...
point 3 : the solution is to select "orchid board" instead of "orchid board fixed" at the bottom of your screen, just left under the line "All times are GMT -8. The time now is 11:31 AM." (there is another thread about the new modifications in the OB). Once you select it, it seems to remember your choice when you come back to the board.

Although I'm not running on a Mac, I occasionally have trouble opening the thumbnails. What seems to work for me is to click on NEXT and then once that opens, I click on PREVIOUS and the first one opens. It's like it needs a little kick in the thumbnail
I agree, there are some bugs in the new update but Marty is doing everything he can do work through them. I've been bombarding him with all the complaints folks are coming to me with but alas...
he's only human and can only do so much

I know Sue, it was not the intention to point on anyone as i said, I am very happy I foudn OB and the whole crew... I was just listingthe problems I found... I thought that would be better than sending a PM to Marty... maybe others could add what they have too, and as with Kallima, provide solutions and tricks
as per your trick... it does not work here (I had to use this one again... it's so funny )

Hi guys, the increased traffic that we have on our server is the culprit for the slower site. Also there are many maintenance scripts that run and slow the site too. I'm doubling our RAM for our server so that should improve things a great deal. We may need to add a 3rd hard drive to the server too to cope with our continued growth. It will get better, no worries. Trouble is with the time, I'm spread very thin lately and can't give up the 4hrs of sleep I'm getting lately. I've got many more improvements planned for OB and a lot of fixes pending... Give me about 2 more weeks so I can do some tweaking. AFter that I'll be ready for more complaints and we'll deal with those too
No worries, OB is still my baby and won't be given up on

I just found out that you can also change for good the OB style via your User CP, in the menu Settings and options (left bar) then in Edit Options, all the way down in Miscellaneous Options : your can select the Forum skin
Orchid board or Orchid board fixed
Save the changes and it should not bother you anymore
Don't find any trick for the picture...
The exact problem we have Susanne about the pictures is that when we click on the pic thumbnail attached to the post, usually the screen gets dimmed and a window appears, in which the picture is (it is a common flash animation called Lightbox) with the commands previous, next, exit. But now we don't have time to see the pic, because the flash animation stops just when the window appears and the screen goes back to the post.

Awwww Marty!!! I want to say THANK YOU for all the time and energy you put into this forum, I'm sure it's time consuming, to say the least. I would be lost without it and I'm sure everyone on the OB would be too. I have been able to keep lots of orchids alive because of what you have done here. I have also learned a lot about what not to do! I have also made some bonds here that relieve the stress I seem to accumulate daily. I plan to become a forum supporter, but times are hard right now and my checkbook won't allow for it. I know it cost a lot to keep this place going and I want to help out. So as soon as things get back on track for me, I will have a purple orchid next to my name!

Ramón, like you I also use MacOS X, and since I've been using a Mac since 1983 I'm not going to stop now! I like computers that work, not buggy contraptions (no, not trying to start a platform war here - I used to WORK for IBM).
I changed to "Orchid Board" in the settings a while ago and haven't had any problems. I love this place!
