I am more lost on this web site than I am at starting to grow an orchid. I can post a question on a new thread but don't know how to retrieve a response to my question from a fellow member. How can I get a clue? Not everyone is as adept at the computer as many of you are. Thanks, Gareth

Open your UserCP (near the top of the page) and confirm that you checked "yes" to be notified of responses to your posts.

When you log in to OB, you can click on "Quick Links" (also near the top of the page) and then choose "Today's Posts" to get all posts on OB within the previous 24 hrs.

We're always here to help...it's as easy as asking a question

Hi, Thanks for the info to get started. I have 3 orchids two of which were rescues from a store clearence. The other one was a gift when my dad passed away in August. It is a green lady slipper type flower. So, my journey begins to maintain the health and life of these 3 plants.

OK. Here`s another question for you. I`m new to forum`s, so please bear with me....
What do the orchids below a username mean? Some have yellow, some have white. I`ve seen from one to lot`s. I think it may be the ammount of posting, but I`m just guesing.
Also, what is a moderator and a super moderator?

yes, the flowers under a user name have to do with the number of posts - those who have contributed financially to keep OB up and running will have some flowers a different color

not sure about the moderator and super-moderator ...

The number of white or yellow flowers relates to the number of posts you have made.

I think it's 1 for 100, 2 for 500, 3 for 1000, 4 for 2500, 5 for 5000 (apart from our owner Marty who gets 5 even without the posts ).

If they are white flowers the person is a moderator, super-moderator, or admin. Yellow flowers for everyone else.

A purple flower is for 'forum supporters'. That is people who financially help with the running of the forum. There are a few perks for that, like unlimited gallery space, less adverts & bigger avatars. Click on the flower or link for more information about that.

I think all of our moderators here are super-moderators. Moderators can only approve posts and can't delete spam. Because we don't need to approve posts and deleting spam is the main job our moderators do, we all have the status of super-moderator. The title can be changed though if you are a forum supporter and for me someone called Dorothy was always the 'super-moderator' when I first joined, (I used to think the title was unique to her because she WAS a super-moderator). I did not feel I could ever live up to her so changed my title almost straight away.

Thank you Sue and Dorothy. You have both provided much needed information on how to use the "Orchid Board" site. I was having a lot of trouble and going more by hit and miss.

Hi , there , you and every one !

This is a new experience from a new Member !

With so many features and a huge Menu of choices , I hasten to add that a simple "newcomers" trip would be very useful , for an aging lesser computer nurd like me . I dare say there must be others struggling in a similar way .

Being retired and residing full time in Thailand , I have started my private collection of specie orchid plants from the Asia region only. For some of the plants I have managed to get in bloom , but have no means to identify , is there possibility for obtaining a plant identity if I was to post some good pictures on this side . ( I need to discover how to do this first ) ! Not being American , but from the Netherlands , it is hard to understand words like " Trackbacks" . If this reaches anyone , I be glad to hear from you ! Many thanks , Evert ten Houten

Hi Evert and welcome to the forum!

A good place to start is Rosie's signature. If you look at the third post above yours she posted there. Just click on the links in her signature and there are tips for how to get started and how to post pictures.
