Problem Logging In To Orchidboard Male
Default Problem Logging In To Orchidboard

I have a recurring problem. When I try to sign in with my name and password I don't get signed in. Most often I can only sign in when I am in "incognito mode".
This problem causes me to be less active here because it is another hoop to jump through. What causes this problem?

If icognito works but not regular, maybe there's a cookie issue. Incognito is Firefox, correct? You can go into the settings and delete just the OB cookies. And be sure you're checking the "Keep me logged in" box at login.

Mods and admins are also having recurring issues and I've not heard back from the site owner yet. The software is so old I have a feeling that some things are starting to break when browsers get updates.

I agree, try clearing your cookies or trying a different browser to try to pinpoint the problem.

It's a real crap shoot for me right now. I've tried a couple different browsers than my usual Chrome (Firefox and MSEdge), clearing cookies, logging out then back in (maybe). I'm able to log in via a hyperlink sometimes and sometimes not. Sometimes the same hyperlink I used to get online doesn't work the next time I try. I can't get logged in via www.orchidboard.com at all. Says it's logging me in, then bounces me back out.

I can be logged in, then try to upload photos to photo gallery. It boots me out. If I get logged in, I can go to the admin panel. Sometimes it boots me out, and sometimes it doesn't. Very random.

Yes, it's a real problem and a real pain. Hopefully Marty gets with us soon, and hopefully can rectify the matter. I started seeing this around three or so weeks ago after my last browser update. But trying a different browser gave similar results. {{WWitchin sits impatiently, tapping her toe}}

Details requested by Camille: Two desktops attemped, one Windows 8.?, one Windows 10. both 64 bit. Two phones attempted, iPhone SE, iPhone 10. Browsers attempted Chrome, Firefox and MSEdge. Similar random results on each one attempted.

If anyone else runs into issues with the site, could you share it in this thread? I thought it could be useful to get a better idea of what the problems are, and how widespread they are while I try to find another way to reach the site owner. I messaged him over a week ago and still no reply, so I'm starting to think he doesn't use that means of communication anymore (or is on vacation). In the past I usually received a reply within a day...

Please try to be specific in your description, and also indicate which operating system (including if it's phone/tablet or computer) and browser you are using or have tried have tried.

At the risk of jinxing myself by mentioning it, I don't believe I have ever had any trouble logging in, though there have been a few occasions when the site itself seemed to be down for a day or two and I couldn't bring it up at all. FWIW, I'm always using a desktop PC and Mozilla Firefox as a browser, just in regular mode.

I'm just curious, though. If any of us are having problems where we cannot log in, in any way, how would we let anyone here know about it? I can foresee the possibility of regular contributors here just dropping off like flies, or new members getting discouraged, and nobody would know the reason (and it would probably be blamed on a lack of interest in discussion forums like this in the social media age).

I do hope you hear from Marty soon, Camille.

When not logged in, there's a link to "contact support." I sent a test email on that site. We'll see if Camille and I get it as admins.

Very good question. Based on the issues Roberta and WaterWitchin have (and me occasionally) it seems that users are never completely locked out and problems can be rather sporadic. So I'm hopeful that very few people are locked out. On the other hand our mods/admins are stubborn and routinely put in time and effort to figure out a way a way to make it work. A lot of people may simple give up after one attempt... I agree that login issues are not good for aging platforms like discussion forums, which are already on the road to extinction as it is...

I'm not completely sure, but i think mails sent via that link disappear into a black hole. I think they go to a orchidboard email address, but no one here has access to it. RosieC may have had access to it, I can check with her (if she still uses Facebook)

I'll echo Cheri's experience.

I have no issue with logging in via my Windows 11 PC/Chrome or iPad/Chrome.

On fairly rare occasion, when I come back here, I'll discover I have been logged out, but I re-log in and all is good.

FWIW, when I'm doing something to my own website, I often clear all browsing history, downloaded images, and the like, so maybe I'm clearing the offending file(s).

It seems like removing cookies from Orchidboard has done the trick.
