I'm not familiar with vBulletin and don't know who wrote the code back in the day, but it's very bad for today's standards.
The website is not responsive, some features are broken or plain useless, there's lots of code errors and bad practices.
There are lots of tools and frameworks to make great forums, for not that much money and effort.

You're preaching to the choir Mr.Fakename. We are exquisitely aware of the issues. The point being, as Camille says, neither she, Roberta, nor I are owners of Orchid Board. We exist to keep it open and moderated, and that's the extent of our "superpowers." Does it make us feel bad? Sure, but not much we can do about it other than what has already been attempted. Hell, I have to adjust my firewall just to use this site.
At this point I'm happy OrchidBoard still exists and hasn't totally collapsed. So far, its main purpose of asking and sharing information still works. At least there is that.
I'm in the using a PC with a real keyboard when possible. I'm horrible with an iPad, notebook, or laptop with the little rectangular screen. Use my iPhone (a small dated version) to "check in" a lot doing the moderator thang, but that's about it phone-wise.

Being fairly new here i have to say that, with what you have to work with, you ladies are doing a bang up job. Just out of curiosity, is the owner still reachable?

If I urgently need help with something on the forum, yes, I have a way to reach him outside of OrchidBoard. He has helped me a few times with some things, and he appreciates our work to keep this site afloat.

I think the issue is this site runs on the same server that runs his business. Orchid Board brings in very little revenue. That means major work on this site puts his online business at risk, or at least shuts it down for a while during upgrades.
This is beneficial for Orchid Board because it's still part of his business operations, therefore not completely useless. The cost is lower than it would be if Orchid Board were a standalone site on its own server. But it's bad for Orchid Board because upgrades are problematic to the other business.

That's good to know the ownership structure and the server status. What's version of the vBulletin that this board is running off? There should be some sort of backup procedures in place right? I can dig a little more just to see what are the options are to upgrade/migrate the board. I hope there is a digital content company can acquire this board and upgrade it, a win-win situation for every one. Just some random thoughts.
